Very good book, Woodrell is clearly an excellent writer and I will be checking out more of his work in the near future. *He promises just before being crushed by his to be read pile.* Not quite noir but satisfyingly dark. Ree Dolly is an excellent, strong, protagonist; fighting to protect her family at whatever cost. I would be very interested in reading more of her story, not to mention the rest of the Dolly extended family. The bitter winter setting really turned the bleakness up to eleven. This was a very impressive novel. Now to watch the film.
